Project overview

The Rural City of Wangaratta has identified the North West Growth Area and the Southern Growth Area as the city's two main residential development zones.

Both areas are in the early stages of development and North East Water is constructing a new sewer pump station and underground detention storage near Lindner and Wangandary roads to provide sewerage services for the North West Growth Area.

Building and earthworks will be underway in winter and from September 2024. Works involve the construction of a new sewer pump station to collect flows from future residential development. A detention storage system is also being built to manage peak flows from the area into the city's sewer network.

The works will allow residential growth to continue in the North West Growth Area for many years.

What to expect during construction

Construction is underway and nearby residents may notice:

  • Heavy vehicles – you may see heavy and other vehicles moving to and from the construction site and on local roads.
  • Noise – you may notice noise from construction activities during certain periods.
  • Dust – you may notice some dust during excavation at the site to lay new pipes.

Wangaratta North-West Growth Area

Detention tanks like these in Wangaratta's Salisbury Street sewer station development will also be installed to support residential capacity in development around Lindner and Wangandary roads.
