Project overview
Wodonga is experiencing unprecedented growth. Its population forecast to double by 2060 and the Leneva Valley has been identified as a key area for residential and community development on the city’s rural outskirts.
In 2018 Wodonga City Council and the Victorian Planning Authority finalised the first stage of The Leneva-Baranduda Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) in collaboration with government, service agencies and stakeholders.
The plan sets out a sustainable design framework, integrated water management and the application of the Wodonga Retained Environment Network Strategy (WRENS) ecological and conservation goals for urban development in Leneva-Baranduda.
Next steps
North East Water recently finalised its Water and Wastewater Network Future Growth Infrastructure Plans. These outline the necessary network infrastructure required to support Wodonga's current and future customers while maintaining North East Water's level of service. The plan identifies significant short and long-term capital investments to accommodate this growth, focussing on intergenerational development and aligning with asset design life projections extending to 100 years.
This level of service considers Wodonga City's growth forecasts, aligning with housing development targets outlined in the Victorian Government's housing statement, and incorporates efficient, staged infrastructure development. The planning process will involve consultation with the council, government agencies, regulators, developers and landowners.
The infrastructure planning phase, which encompasses water distribution mains, water supply storage, trunk sewer gravity mains, rising (sewer pressure) mains, and a sewage pumping station, has commenced. This phase is crucial to ensure the selection of appropriate alignments and the availability of land for the construction of these essential future assets.
