Project overview
North East Water is responding to Beechworth's growth by planning and constructing a new mechanical wastewater treatment plant off McFeeters Road on the same site as existing treatment lagoons north of the town.
The upgrade will ensure long-term environmental performance and support residential and industrial development in the community. Works will include new biological nutrient removal bioreactors, inlet works, UV disinfection, aerobic digestion, residuals management systems, pipework and lagoon remediation works.
Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) approvals are now complete, and site works are expected to start in late 2026.
