Project overview

Beechworth’s drinking water is supplied from the Dingle Road water treatment plant (WTP). Historically, water flowed from the WTP into the Mayday Hills clear water storage (CWS) which acted as both storage and a pressure break for the system.

Removing the aging Mayday Hills clear water storage (CWS) tank from service will ensure the ongoing safety and quality of the town water supply. Construction of a new pressure reducing station (PRS) will allow the Beechworth water network to operate safely and reliably using the existing storage at the Beechworth water treatment plant.

What to expect during construction

Traffic management will be in place for safety reasons. For the construction of the PRS, a portion of Albert Road/Camp Street will be reduced to one lane at times. The Rail Trail will remain open, with signage and fencing to ensure safe passage around the worksite. Construction will be tailored to minimise disruption to traffic flows; please obey all signage and staff onsite.

Nearby residents may also notice:

  • Heavy vehicles moving to and from the construction site and on local roads.
  • Noise from construction activities during certain periods.
  • Dust may be produced during excavation works.
  • Footpath closure between Railway Ave and Harper Ave.
